Portsmouth Historic Dockyard is the only place in the world to see the Royal Navy past, present and future. Discover the world famous historic ships - HMS Victory the Mary Rose & HMS Warrior 1860 that have shaped British history at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard. Home of the Royal Navy, other attractions include The Royal Naval Museum  with a new Exhibition "Sea Your History" and Action Stations with the interactive gallery detailing the science and technology used by the modern Royal Navy.

Day 1

We leave Penrith for our journey to the south coast and our hotel the Best Western Royal Beach, situated on the seafront at Southsea. Dinner at the hotel.

Day 2

This morning we visit the top two attractions in Portsmouth, the Historic Dockyard, where you can see HMS Victory, the Mary Rose Museum, HMS Warrior, the Royal Naval Museum and take a harbour cruise. We complete our day with a journey up to the viewing platform of the Emirates Spinnaker Tower with breathtaking views of Portsmouth and the English Channel. Dinner at the Royal Beach.

Day 3

Morning at leisure in Southsea and Portsmouth, options to visit include the D Day Museum, Gunwharf Quays, the city’s two cathedrals, and Southsea sea front. Dinner at the hotel.

Day 4

Today we travel into Winchester, the quaint cathedral city on the edge of the South Downs and England’s ancient capital time at leisure before we leave after lunch for the short journey to the Ocean Village in Southampton where we join the Blue Funnel Ferry for a cruise down Southampton Water to view the yachting harbour of the River Hamble, previously home to the popular TV series Howards Way, and taking in some very spectacular views. Dinner at the hotel.

Day 5

Morning visit to Chichester, once a Roman town and port, with its market and many interesting shops. In the afternoon we visit the award winning gardens of West Dean, featuring a victorian walled garden, 300 foot long edwardian pergola, naturalistic spring garden, sunken garden, orchards and circular arboretum walk set in beautiful parkland with views over the surrounding South Downs. Final dinner at the hotel.

Day 6

After breakfast we leave our hosts at the Royal Beach for our return journey to Cumbria, arriving home early evening.
