Situated on the banks of the River Cam about 50 miles north of London, Cambridge is most widely known as the home of the University of Cambridge, founded in 1209 and consistently ranked one of the top five universities in the world. Be inspired by the many beautiful museums and art galleries. Admire the beautiful architecture and majestic college buildings. Explore quaint passages set around the historic market place and colleges, where a unique and relaxing shopping experience can be found. Here a blend of independent shops is mingled with high street brands. Relax in the many beautiful pubs, restaurants and cafes. Catch a student theatrical production, or a show at the Arts Theatre. See live music or comedy at the Corn Exchange.



St. Albans is a city in the commuter belt north of London, England. Its vast centuries-old cathedral features medieval wall paintings. Nearby, Verulamium Park has ornamental lakes and the remains of the city's ancient Roman wall. Also here is the Verulamium Museum, displaying artefacts from the city’s Roman past, including mosaics and the Sandridge Hoard of gold coins. A 2nd-century Roman theatre stands nearby.

Royal Air Force Museum London

Royal Air Force Museum London, commonly called the RAF Museum, Hendon is located on the former Hendon Aerodrome, with five major buildings and hangars dedicated to the history of aviation and the Royal Air Force. It is part of the Royal Air Force Museum, a non-departmental public body sponsored by the Ministry of Defence and a registered charity.

The museum was officially opened on 15 November 1972 by Queen Elizabeth II.



The historic city of Ely is full of charm and beauty and home to one of the most magnificent cathedrals in England. The cathedral is Ely's top tourist attraction and it is easy to see why. Look in awe and wonder at this 12th century building on our guided tour. Tours also include optional visits to the Octagon and/or Lantern Towers, where the spectacular view makes it well worth the climb! 

Oliver Cromwell's House

Home to the Lord Protector, Cromwell lived in this house with his family for ten years, his only remaining home apart from Hampton Court Palace, London. Experience what domestic life would have been like in the 17th Century in a variety of re-created period rooms as well an exhibition detailing the Civil War. Visit Mrs Cromwell's kitchen or venture into the Haunted Bedroom if you dare!

The family home of Oliver Cromwell, restored to provide a vivid recreation of 17th century life. The house comprises eight period rooms, including the kitchen, study, and the famous haunted bedroom.


Day 1

We depart Cumbria in the morning for our journey south via Scotch Corner and the A1 to Newark, time for lunch in this attractive Market Town situated on the River Trent. We continue our journey south to Cambridge and the Holiday Inn hotel. Dinner in the hotel.


Day 2

This morning we have the short journey into the centre of Cambridge, where we board our chauffered punt through the back waters of Cambridge. Our guide will not only steer the punt along the River Cam, but will also ensure we see the highlights of Cambridge’s College buildings. To compliment this truly English setting, strawberries and cream will be served as you glide by the many college buildings. There is then time for you to explore the wonderful City of Cambridge at leisure before we travel back to the hotel in time for dinner.

Day 3

After breakfast today we visit the Roman City of St Albans. At the city’s historic core you will find the magnificent Cathedral - dating back to 1077, well worth a visit and the award winning Verulamium Museum will give you an eye opening insight into Roman life. We have time to explore and obtain lunch before our afternoon visit to the fabulous RAF Museum at Hendon, telling the story of the Royal Air Force with over 100 aircraft in 5 themed halls. Dinner at the hotel.

Day 4

Today after breakfast we drive to the historic City of Ely where we have time to explore and visit the market and check out the quirky shops before time for lunch. We then enjoy a guided tour of Ely’s main attraction, the magnificent cathedral, known as ‘The Ship of the Fens’. This is followed by a visit to Oliver Cromwell’s House. Cromwell lived in this house with his family for 10 years and this is his only remaining home apart from Hampton Court Palace. Here we have a guided tour by Mrs Cromwell creating an atmospheric experience.

Day 5

We depart Cambridge after breakfast for our journey home, stopping off en route for lunch, arriving home early evening.
