The city of Ripon is located on the River Ure. Ripon is a beautiful market town that was founded over 1300 years ago, and is famous as an old Cathedral City where monasteries have stood since the 7th Century. The old city of Ripon is filled with shops, cafes, restaurants, and pubs, and also boasts many historical buildings and museums, including Ripon Cathedral, the Wakeman’s House, Studley Royal, Fountains Abbey and Ripon Spa Gardens where a Victorian bandstand is set.

Chatsworth is one of Britain's best loved historic houses and estates, home of the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire it is set in the magnificent landscape of Derbyshire's Peak District National Park.The Duke & Duchess are delighted to be welcoming the RHS to Chatsworth for the first of many memorable flower shows. Bold and innovative this new show is set to be simply amazing. Following in the footsteps of Chatsworth’s design Revolutionaries ‘Capability’ Brown and Joseph Paxton, there will be gardens, displays and features from hotly-tipped designers. Gather gardening tips from talks and demonstrations by experts. Plus quiz RHS Advisors. Discover a range of Show Gardens where designers push boundaries to create daring and innovative designs. Exciting categories such as FreeForm will provide a blank canvas for designers to showcase their ground breaking ideas.

A striking reconstruction of Joseph Paxton’s magnificent Great Conservatory is the spectacular setting for amazing floral displays and plant sales. You can also explore mini plant worlds themed around habitats such as woodland, Mediterranean and jungle. 

The show brings together a selection of the finest independent companies and specialist nurseries, offering a wide-range of design-led products and quality plants.

York is a place where the old encompasses the new and the commonplace meets with the unexpected. Broaden your mind with a visit to its world class museums. Famous for its Roman, Viking, and Medieval heritage and wealth of attractions like the iconic York Minster, JORVIK Centre and National Railway Museum York is fast developing a flourishing cutting edge scene with special events, entertaining guided walks and boat trips on the River Ouse, there is something for everyone.

If you want to spoil yourself, there is no better place to go shopping than York. With its mix of designer labels, high street names and independent shops and antique shops selling vintage jewellery, York will satisfy even the most demanding shopper. Wander the web of shopping streets to browse the amazing array of independent boutiques, vintage stores and popular high street names such as Marks and Spencer, Fenwick and Mulberry - all flaunting the season's latest arrivals or hop on a bus to the Designer Outlet to discover famous label fashion at great prices.


Day 1

A morning departure from Cumbria as we travel to Richmond, time for coffee in this delightful town prior to heading to Ripon, time at leisure for lunch and to explore the market square and wonderful Cathedral. We leave mid afternoon for the journey to Rotherham and our hotel Hellaby Hall. Dinner in the hotel.


Day 2

We have a full day visit to Chatsworth Estate for the RHS Chatsworth Flower Show, for the first time in more than a decade, the RHS is embarking on a new show with a style and content unlike any of its existing events. Its main theme is ‘Design Revolutionaries’ and will celebrate not only the creative genius of gardeners and garden designers from the past, especially Joseph Paxton who was once the estate’s gardener, but also the talent, ideas and conceptual thinking of today’s generation of designers. Fresh ideas, cutting edge design and new technology will be at the heart of the show. A representation of Joseph Paxton's magnificent Great Conservatory forms the central feature of the floral marquee and two wings either side will house a selection of the UK's top nurseries selling a wide range of plants. Discover mini plant worlds themed around popular topics such as Cutting and Dry Gardens, where you can pick up top tips from knowledgeable growers. We return to the hotel for dinner.

Day 3

A leisurely breakfast before we travel north to York, time at leisure in this fascinating walled city that was founded by the Romans. Its many attractions include the huge 13th-century Gothic cathedral, York Minster, the City Walls, famous 'Shambles' shopping streets and many museums. We leave mid afternoon for the journey home to Cumbria, arriving back early evening.
