This traditional medieval town is filled with beautiful cobbled streets, gabled houses with colourful facades with upmarket boutiques and cafes. Surrounded by ancient walls, Kitzbuhel is renowned for being one of the most picturesque towns in Europe.

Krimml Waterfalls

The Krimml Waterfalls with a total height of 1,247 feet are the highest waterfall in Austria. The falls are on the Krimmler Ache river and are located near the village of Krimml in the High Tauern National Park. Krimmler Waterfalls is a tiered waterfall. The waterfall begins at the top of the Krimmler Ache valley, and plunges downward in three stages. The upper stage has a drop of 140 metres, the middle of 100 metres, and the lowest a drop of 140 metres.

Gerlos Alpine Road

The Gerlos Alpine Road is a very exciting journey between Krimml and Gerlos in the Ziller Valley. It’s one of the scenic Austrian Alpine roads and is located in the High Tauern National Park with fabulous views of the Krimml Falls.



The popular holiday resort of Kirchberg is located amidst the Kitzbüheler Alpen and only 6 km away from the world-famous town of Kitzbühel. The impressive church on the mountain in the middle of the village adds to its wonderful appearance. There are many cafes & restaurants to sit and relax with a coffee or something more substantial and a variety of shops & boutiques.



The legendary mountain climber village of Heiligenblut is regarded as probably one of the most beautiful in the entire Alpine region. It is set in a picturesque mountain landscape at almost 1,300 metres above sea level, against a unique natural backdrop in the Hohe Tauern National Park, watched over by the mighty summit of the Grossglockner (3,798 metres), the highest mountain in Austria.

Grossglockner Alpine Road

This most famous alpine road leads you into the heart of the Hohe Tauern National Park, to the highest mountain in Austria, the Grossglockner (3,798m) and its glacier, the Pasterze. You will have a driving and nature experience of a special kind on 48 kilometres of high alpine road with 36 bends, and an altitude ascent to 2,504 metres!

You pass through a unique world of mountains with blossoming alpine meadows, fragrant mountain forests, massive cliffs and eternal ice to the foot of the Grossglockner, stopping at the Franz-Josef-Höhe viewpoint to admire the outstanding sccenery.

The Grossglockner High Alpine Road is part of Austria's cultural history, one of Austria's main tourist attractions and an internationally acclaimed feat of construction.


Zell am See Lake Cruise

Zell am See

Zell am See is one of the most scenic and well-loved lakes and mountains resorts in Austria. Beautifully located, directly on the shores of Lake Zell, it is also close to the Hohe Tauern National Park and the magnificent Grossglockner mountain region. Most of Zell am See’s medieval centre is traffic-free with a variety of shops and attractive pavement cafés. There are magnificent walks accessed by gondola on the Schmittenhöhe mountain.

Travelling from Cumbria via a lunch stop in York, we join the P & O overnight sailing from Hull to Rotterdam. Enjoy the entertainment on board as we cross the North Sea.

Wednesday 19th Aug

From Rotterdam our journey takes us south through Holland towards Maastricht, into Belgium and then into Germany and our overnight hotel the Mercure at Saarbrucken. Dinner in the hotel.


Thursday 20th Aug

After breakfast we head towards Karlsruhe, Stuttgart and Ulm before passing Munich on our way to the German border at Kufstein. From here we only have a short drive to Kirchberg and our hotel the Kirchberger Hof. Dinner in the hotel.

Friday 21st Aug

A morning visit to the chic mountain resort of Kitzbuhel for coffee before heading southwards via the famous Thurn Pass and onwards to the Krimml Waterfalls to marvel at this impressive natural spectacle. The falls are Europe’s highest waterfalls with a drop of 380 metres and the fifth largest in the world. Our return journey to Kirchberg is via the scenic Gerlos Pass and Ziller Valley. Dinner in the hotel.

Day at leisure in Kirchberg, enjoy the surroundings and hotels leisure facilities. Dinner in the hotel.

Sunday 23rd Aug

This morning we take a scenic drive via Mittersill and Matrei into the beautiful Hohe Tauern National Park. We stop for lunch at leisure in the delightful village of Heiligenblut which nestles at the foot of the mighty Grossglockner, Austria’s highest mountain. From here we travel on the Grossglockner High Alpine Road, one of the highest Alpine passes in Europe. During our journey we stop at the Franz-Josef-Höhe viewpoint to admire the outstanding scenery before continuing on our circular route back to our hotel. Dinner in the hotel.

Monday 24th Aug

This morning, we travel to the pretty town of Zell am See, nestled on the shores of lovely Lake Zell. We will then enjoy a panoramic boat cruise before spending time wandering through the medieval centre and along the lake shore. Dinner at the hotel.

Tuesday 25th Aug

We leave our hosts at the Kirchberger Hof for the Journey back to Saarbrucken and our overnight stop at the Mercure hotel. Dinner in the hotel.

Our journey continues north towards Rotterdam and the overnight sailing to Hull.


Thursday 27th Aug

From Hull we return to Cumbria, arriving home early afternoon.

Hotel Kirchberger Hof

Located in the centre of Kirchberg in Tirol, Hotel Kirchberger Hof features a spa area with a sauna, a steam bath, an infrared cabin, and an indoor swimming pool. There is also a beauty and massage parlour.
