St Wolfgang

St. Wolfgang im Salzkammergut is situated east of Salzburg in the Salzkammergut region. The Pilgrimage Church, overlooking Lake Wolfgangsee, houses a towering, intricately carved winged altarpiece. Ferries, including an 1873 paddle steamer, cruise the lake, which is ringed by mountains. The Schafbergbahn, a steam-powered cog railway, climbs to Schafberg’s summit for panoramic views of the Dachstein range.

Salzburg is on the border of Germany, with views of the Eastern Alps. The city is divided by the Salzach River with the pedestrian Altstadt (Old City) on its left bank. Salzburg's "Old Town" is internationally renowned for its baroque architecture and is one of the best-preserved city centres north of the Alps. It was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997.

The 19th-century Neustadt (New City) on the river's right bank. The Altstadt birthplace of famed composer Mozart is preserved as a museum displaying his childhood instruments.

Bad Ischl

The little town of Bad Ischl in Upper Austria, the former summer capital of the great Austro-Hungarian Monarchy, has been associated with the Habsburg imperial dynasty for at least 700 years. The Imperial Villa in Ischl, the Emperor's summer residence, was described by Franz Josef I as "heaven on earth" for himself and his family.

Nestled between the edge of Hallstätter See and the towering Dachstein mountains in the Salzach valley of the Eastern Alps, Austria’s oldest and possibly most photographed village is something like a mirage in the Salzkammergut Lake Region. There are a few options for arriving in the spectacular Alpine village of Hallstatt, but the best way to experience the magnitude of this famous location is with a ferry ride across the lake and enjoy the arresting sight as a tiny village tucked between mountains and water comes into view. Hallstatt's wealth and beautiful architecture derives from the salt which lies beneath it and has been mined for centuries. Discover the subterranean salt lake and the mummy of a prehistoric miner who became preserved in salt and the museum with 7,000-year-old artifacts.

Lake Mondsee is one of 76 lakes within the beautiful Salzkammergut region. Its crystal clear turquoise water surrounded by magnificent peaks sets a very picturesque scene. The town of Mondsee extends along the northern tip of this crescent-shaped lake, noted for its warm waters. The main square is no bigger than 2 blocks with an ample selection of cafes and restaurants to choose from. What Mondsee may be most famous for is the Basilica St Michael, where the wedding of Maria and Captain Von Trapp took place in the world-famous film, The Sound of Music.
